BUENOS AIRES, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors missed the chance to finish top of its group when it was held to a 1-1 draw at Tigre in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Sunday.
Kevin Zenon put the visitors ahead with a long-range drive after combining with Miguel Merentiel on the counterattack.
Lorenzo Scipioni equalized when he showed sharp reflexes and agility to volley home from inside the six-yard box after Joaquin Laso's headed flick.
The result meant Boca ended the regular season second in Group A, behind Argentinos Juniors on goal difference. Tigre finished fifth to secure one of the group's eight playoff places.
"We are disappointed with today's result, but our aim is still to reach the final and win the title," Boca forward Miguel Merentiel said after the match.
Meanwhile, River Plate secured second place in Group B with a 4-1 home victory over Velez Sarsfield.
Sebastian Driussi, Facundo Colidio and Ignacio Fernandez scored first-half goals for the hosts before Mauricio Carrizo reduced the deficit just before halftime.
Colombian striker Miguel Borja completed the rout with a late penalty as River registered its eighth win of the campaign.
In other Argentine Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Gimnasia won 1-0 at home to Platense and Aldosivi prevailed 3-0 at San Martin. ■
