BERLIN, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD) on Monday announced nominations for key positions in the federal Cabinet to be led by Friedrich Merz of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
The SPD's co-leader Lars Klingbeil is set to become vice chancellor and take the helm of the Finance Ministry. Boris Pistorius will be retaining his post as defense minister. Baerbel Bas, former president of the Bundestag, has been nominated as minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
Other nominations include 35-year-old Reem Alabali-Radovan as minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The lower house of parliament is expected to elect Merz as chancellor on Tuesday. ■
