PHNOM PENH, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia collected 3.83 billion U.S. dollars from all sources of taxes in 2017, up 18.5 percent from 3.23 billion U.S. dollars in 2016, according to official reports on Thursday.

The country has two institutions responsible for collecting taxes. One is the General Department of Taxation (GDT), which focuses on interior taxes such as income tax, Value Added Tax, turnover tax, and property tax, and the other is the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE), which collects taxes on goods entering and leaving the country.

GDT's director-general Kong Vibol said in a statement on Thursday that the GDT garnered 1.93 billion U.S. dollars in taxes last year, up 27.8 percent year-on-year.

"We had achieved 113 percent of the 2017 target," he said.

GDCE's director general Kun Nhim said on Tuesday that the GDCE collected 1.9 billion U.S. dollars in tax revenue in 2017, up 10.4 percent year-on-year.
