BANGKOK, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- An 73-year-old owner of a pineapple plantation in eastern Thailand's Chachoengsao province was killed by two wild elephants early Monday, according to local media.

The man's body was found at his plantation on Monday morning and his body was badly harmed by the pachyderms, reports said.

The incident happened when the man was watching over his plantation at night and two wild elephants rampaged through the plantation, according to villagers.

His hut was demolished and he was pulled outside before being kicked to death, villagers said.

The man's body was now under further autopsy. Officials have been tracking the path of the wild elephant herds and they strengthened safety measures.

It's estimated that about 3,500 domesticated elephants live in Thailand and roughly 3,340 wild elephants live in 69 wildlife sanctuaries and national parks across the country.
