HOHHOT, July 9 (Xinhua) -- North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region contributes about 40 percent of the world's cashmere output, according to the Industry and Information Technology Department of the region.

As China's leading producer of cashmere products, the region has about 70 percent of the country's cashmere resources and produced more than 6,600 tonnes of cashmere in 2018, according to the department.

"The cashmere produced in the region has a higher quality compared with that in other countries and regions on the same latitude, and it is soft and elastic," said Wang Li, head of the fibre examination bureau in the region.

The region also produced 7.57 million cashmere garments in 2018, the highest among all Chinese regions.

The companies in the region, including Erdos and Kingdeer, have established a complete industry chain ranging from cashmere purchasing and processing to garment making and marketing and have built plants in Myanmar, Cambodia and other countries.
