RABAT, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish government on Friday offered Morocco 32.2 million euros (35.89 million U.S. dollars) in aid to support the North African country's efforts to curb irregular migration, official Moroccan news agency MAP reported.

The aid comes under a police cooperation agreement between the two countries to stop migrants from entering Europe illegally by crossing the Mediterranean Sea toward Spain.

On July 5, Spain approved a 26-million-euro grant to support Morocco in its efforts to enhance control over its borders.

The money was directed to purchase material and equipment including 750 vehicles, 15 drones and dozens of scanners and radars.

Morocco has become a hub for African migrants who seek to reach Europe for a better life.

According to the Moroccan authorities, more than 40,300 illegal immigration attempts were foiled in the first six months of 2019.
