WINDHOEK, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Plans are well under way for Namibia's first ever fashion festival which is aimed at promoting cultural diversity, event organizers said Thursday.

The country will next month hold the Katutura Fashion week where local designers will get a chance to showcase their work.

Speaking at a press conference, event organizer Dennis Hendricks said the event will change the face of fashion in the country.

"We want to promote local people so you can expect designers and models from around the country which is exciting," he said.

The fashion festival will see children and adults of all shapes and sizes taking part.

"More than 50 models from all the 14 regions will take part in the show," he said.

The organizers have invited over 70 international designers who will be scouting for talent.

"I am creating a platform for younger designers to display their talents and also opening doors for disadvantaged designers," he said.

The festival will include garment exhibitions, runway events as well as award shows.
