FARAH, Afghanistan, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least four militants, including a Taliban leader, have been killed in an airstrike in Afghanistan's western Farah province, in a latest raid against the Taliban insurgents, their supply lines and the insurgent's mid-level command structure, local police said Tuesday.

"Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Afghan Air Force struck a vehicle carrying militants in Naal Dasht village of Khaki Safed district, Farah province roughly at 4:30 p.m. Monday, killing four militants," the provincial police said in a statement.

Among those killed was a Taliban leader Mawlawi Kamal who served as head of militants' regional military commission, the statement added.

The militants' vehicle was also destroyed in the sortie and no civilian was near the site when the strike was conducted, according to the statement.

Taliban militants, controlling parts of Farah, use rugged terrains and mountains as hideouts and frequently launch hit-and-run attacks against security forces.

The militant group has not made a comment on the report so far.
